Gen Z and money – level 2
06-10-2026 15:00
Young adults in Gen Z are struggling to reach traditional life goals like buying a house, getting married, or having children. High house prices, expensive rent, and low salaries mean that young people delay these milestones.
In many countries, buying a home now costs up to ten times an average yearly salary. Social media makes things worse because young people compare themselves to online images of rich people, which causes stress and bad financial choices. Experts say this generation may be less rich than their parents because of inflation and high living costs.
Instead of giving up, many young people are learning how to manage their money better. Many are also joining political protests to fight for lower costs, fair treatment, and a better future for everyone.
Difficult words: milestone (an important event or stage in life), average (normal), inflation (when prices are rising over time).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Why do experts say this generation may be less rich than their parents, and how are many young people responding?
