Sydney must close its beaches – level 1
28-10-2026 07:00
A dead whale washes up on the rocks near Sydney, Australia. Local leaders close nearby beaches to keep people safe. They are worried that the big dead animal will bring hungry sharks near the shore.
Workers cannot easily move the whale. The water is dangerous, and the rocks are sharp. Also, the body is already breaking down into parts. Experts say that many whales are swimming near the land this month.
Local people and rangers want to do a special ceremony for the animal. Leaders tell visitors not to swim in the sea right now.
Difficult words: wash up (when water carries something onto the land), shore (the land along a sea or lake), break down (to separate into smaller parts over time).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What reasons are given for why workers cannot easily move the whale?
