New EU deforestation law – level 1
04-11-2026 07:00
The EU has a new rule to save forests. The rule is starting on 30 December 2026. Companies which sell things like coffee, palm oil, and chocolate must prove that they do not cut down trees.
But some big companies are still buying palm oil from places in Indonesia. People cut down forests illegally there.
Some countries want Europe to stop or change the rule. These countries are, for example, the US and Indonesia. But the EU must follow the rules strictly. Indonesia is losing many trees to big fires and farming. People hope that this new rule will stop companies from harming trees and help keep the earth green and safe.
Difficult words: prove (to show that something is true), illegally (against rules), strictly (exactly).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
