Hackers attack Ukrainian and Russian emergency apps – level 3
06-11-2026 07:00
Both Ukraine and Russia recently reported that their official emergency alert apps were hit by major cyberattacks, which triggered mass panic through fake notifications.
In Kyiv, citizens received terrifying false warnings about nuclear radiation, chemical threats, and active street fighting, and they were told to stay inside. Ukrainian officials quickly blamed Russian hackers and reassured the public that the actual air defense systems were never compromised. Just hours later, Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations reported a similar cyberattack on its own app, which sent out fake alerts with Ukrainian phrasing and offensive language. These attacks target popular mobile apps that millions rely on daily as a backup to air raid sirens.
Experts point out that both countries have advanced hacking teams, and digital sabotage is a key weapon for wearing down morale, creating chaos, and making ordinary people doubt official safety warnings on both sides of the war.
Difficult words: compromised (weakened, damaged, or made vulnerable to unauthorized access or security failure), air raid siren (a loud device used to warn the public of an incoming air attack or missile threat), sabotage (destroying or damaging something on purpose to stop it from working), morale (the confidence, enthusiasm, and discipline of a person or group at a particular time).
