2024 passes 1.5C limit – level 1

15-01-2025 07:00

The world is getting hotter. In 2024, the temperature is 1.5°C higher than pre-industrial times. This is the time when people start using machines and building factories.

This fact does not break the Paris Agreement from ten years ago. But it shows that we are close. Burning things like coal and oil causes the heat. Ella Gilbert is a climate scientist. She says that hot weather makes fires, floods, and storms worse. She gives examples like big fires in Los Angeles and floods in Valencia. These are hurting people’s homes and lives.

Ella says that we can still solve this problem. We need to stop making so much pollution. Governments, companies, and people can all work to make the world cleaner and safer.

Difficult words: temperature (how hot or cold something is), flood (when there is too much water in streets and buildings), pollution (dirty air, water, or land).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What does Ella Gilbert, a climate scientist, suggest as a solution to the problem of increasing global temperatures?
