Three-year-old Claire Bell from Quebec, Canada, went missing on Father’s Day. Her mother, Rachel-Ella Todd, age 34, is now in jail.

Rachel went to court by video. Police are searching for Claire using helicopters, drones, and officers. They found Claire’s dead dog on the side of a road. Just hours before Claire disappeared, Rachel posted a video on TikTok. In it, she holds Claire and says, “You try that again, and this is going to get ugly.”

Police say she also searched online for children’s funeral urns. Rachel had no problems with the police in the past and no mental health problems. The judge may add more charges. The next court date is Wednesday.

Difficult words: ugly (bad, serious), funeral urn (a container to keep the ashes after a body is burned), charge (formally saying that you did something wrong).
