A large ship crashes near a man’s house – level 2

30-05-2025 15:00

Johan Helberg from Norway had a big surprise one morning. A large ship came onto the land and stopped very close to his house.

The ship is 135 meters long and ran aground early in the morning. Johan didn’t hear anything and was still sleeping. His neighbor rang the doorbell to tell him what happened. Johan said the moment was strange, but he also felt lucky. The ship didn’t crash into the house, but it broke one wire on the heating pump. Nobody got hurt, and no oil came out of the ship.

The police and the shipping company are checking what happened. They tried to move the ship back into the water, but it didn’t work. Police said they are looking into one person who probably made a mistake. The shipping company said they were helping the police with the case.

Difficult words: surprise (something you don’t expect), run aground (when a boat or ship goes onto land or shallow water and cannot move), probably (very likely, but not sure).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What did Johan’s neighbor do to alert him that the ship had run aground?
