A man opens the door during flight – level 3

30-05-2023 15:00

A man was arrested in South Korea after allegedly opening the door of an Asiana Airlines flight shortly before landing, causing panic among the passengers.

The incident occurred on an Airbus A321 plane that landed safely at Daegu airport. The door remained open during the landing. While no one was injured, nine people were taken to the hospital due to breathing problems. The suspect, a 33-year-old passenger seated near the emergency exit, opened the door by pulling a lever. Video footage captured the moment when passengers experienced strong winds and fear. The passengers included schoolchildren who were on their way to a sporting event. Authorities were questioning the suspect, who hadn’t cooperated with investigators. The motive behind the incident is under investigation.

Difficult words: lever (a handle that you move to control the operation of a machine or other device), motive (the reason why someone does something).
