A Very Big Robot – level 3

09-10-2020 07:00

A super-sized version of a hugely popular 1970s anime character ’Gundam’ was built to mark the 40th anniversary of the Japanese TV series ’Mobile Suit Gundam’.

The 59-feet and 25-ton robot made its first moves at an amusement park in Japan where it took a knee, moved its arm, and gesticulated. The robot has been in the works since 2014, and it is the masterpiece of Gundam Factory Yokohama. It is made of more than 200 pieces that are a mixture of steel and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. It will allow fans to get up close and personal with the creation and learn about how it was created.

The new attraction was due to open in October 2020; however, because of the coronavirus, visitors will have to wait a little longer.

Difficult words: anime (a style of Japanese film and television animation), gesticulate (to move hands and arms when expressing something), carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (plastic that is strengthened by carbon fibers).
