Albania wants to be a part of the EU – level 3
09-06-2026 07:00
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that there is no alternative for his country to joining the European Union.
He described Albanians as fanatics of the EU faith who have no backup plan. Although Albania has been a candidate country since 2014, the traditional accession process is too slow. Rama supports a new proposal for gradual integration. This would allow candidate countries to sit at the table with EU members and enjoy early benefits before becoming full members.
Rama warned that long delays cause people to lose trust in the EU, which helps anti-EU forces and countries like Russia spread lies in the Western Balkans. He used Moldova as an example, where Russian interference has almost turned public opinion against Europe. Finally, Rama commented on the war in Ukraine. He stated that even though Russia is currently acting as an enemy by killing people, European leaders must start diplomatic talks with Moscow to find a way to stop the war and achieve peace.
Difficult words: accession (joining an official group, club, or organization), gradual (happening slowly, step by step, not all at once), interference (getting into someone else’s business or country to cause trouble or change their decisions).
