Americans protest against Trump – level 2

08-04-2025 07:00

Many people protested in the US after President Trump started his second term. They were unhappy about his new tariffs. These taxes are for goods from other countries.

Elon Musk said he wants the US and EU to have free trade in the future. Right now, the EU must pay a 20% tax on products sent to the US. Some countries, for example, the UK and France, are working together on what to do. Australia also has tariffs now, but will not add their own. The Australian Prime Minister said more taxes would only hurt them. Instead, they want to improve their trade plans. They are trying to keep good relationships with both the US and China.

In New York, business owners are worried. Goods from Scotland, like whisky and salmon, will cost more. They are not sure if Americans will keep buying them.

Difficult words: term (a period a leader stays in power), tariff (a tax on things from another country), free trade (buying and selling things between countries without limits).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What potential impact could the 20% tariff on EU products and additional import taxes have on international trade partnerships and domestic markets, considering Elon Musk’s call for free trade and the Australian Prime Minister’s concerns about further taxes?
