Animals are dying out – level 1
12-03-2025 07:00
Humans make some animals go extinct, like the great auk. Other animals, like orangutans and hedgehogs, are in danger. The great auk is a bird which cannot fly. People hunt it too much. The last one dies in 1844. There are no more auks.
Today, cutting down forests, using too many chemicals, and climate change are hurting animals. Many animals and plants may die out. Hedgehogs are in trouble because cities are growing, and people are destroying their homes.
In 2022, countries promise to protect nature. Some people, like Hotlin Ompusunggu, a dentist from Indonesia, are helping too. She gives cheap care to people who save trees. If we all work together, we can save animals and plants.
Difficult words: extinct (gone forever), in danger (in a situation where you may get hurt or die), protect (to keep safe).
What human activities are causing current threats to animals and plants, and how does Hotlin Ompusunggu help address these challenges?
