‘Are You Dead’ app – level 1
21-01-2026 07:00
In China, many people use a phone app. The app helps them feel safe.
The app asks one question each day. The question is: “Are you dead?” People tap the phone to say that they are okay. If they do not tap for two days, the app sends a message to family or friends.
Many people in China live alone now. Fewer people marry. Older people often live without their children. Sometimes, people from work know more about a person than their family. Older people worry about getting help.
People talk less face-to-face. But phones are not the same as real people. People are online all the time, but they feel lonely. You need to be with others to feel good and healthy.
Difficult words: app (a program on a phone), tap (to touch the screen quickly), marry (to become husband and wife).
What does the app do if someone doesn’t tap to say they’re okay for two days?
