Artemis II – level 2
22-01-2026 07:00
NASA started to move the Artemis II rocket to the launch area in Florida. The rocket travels at four miles per hour and takes up to twelve hours because it moves so slowly. Workers guide it carefully so it stays safe on the road.
This mission will send people toward the Moon for the first time since the Apollo missions in the 1960s and 70s. Four astronauts will travel inside a capsule on top of the rocket. They will fly around the Moon and then come back to Earth after ten days. The crew will not land on the Moon; the team wants to check that all systems work well with people inside the spacecraft.
NASA plans the launch for early February if the weather and systems stay good. This mission helps NASA prepare for future trips that will put people on the Moon again and later support travel to Mars.
Difficult words: launch (to send into space), guide (to show the way or help someone move safely), capsule (a small space vehicle).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What is the primary goal of flying four astronauts around the Moon without landing on it during the Artemis II mission?
