Asian markets react to Middle East war – level 2

06-03-2026 07:00

Asian stock markets fell sharply because investors worry that the war in the Middle East could increase oil prices. Higher energy prices may cause inflation and affect interest rates.

South Korea’s stock market dropped more than 11%, and Japan and Taiwan also had big losses. Investors are worried the conflict could last a long time. Many are selling risky shares, especially technology stocks, and moving money into cash and gold.

Experts say this is not a crisis, but a careful change in investing. Markets are reacting to the risk of higher energy costs and economic problems if the war continues.

Difficult words: stock market (a place where people buy and sell parts of companies), inflation (when prices of goods and services go up over time), share (a small part of a company which you can buy).
