Banana workers in Panama are losing jobs – level 1

12-06-2025 07:00

Chiquita is a big banana company. It works in Panama. Now, it wants to stop all work in the country. The company wants to say goodbye to all workers.

The workers do not like the new law. They stop working. There is a strike. Chiquita says that the strike is not okay. But the workers still do not work.

The president of Panama says that the problem is big. Many people in one area grow bananas. If Chiquita stops, many people will have no job. The government wants to talk. The workers must talk too. If not, people will have no money or food.

Difficult words: strike (when people stop working to show that they are not happy), government (the people who run a country).

What is at risk for many people if Chiquita stops its work in Panama?
