Bangladesh secret prisons – level 2

22-04-2025 15:00

After Sheikh Hasina left power in Bangladesh, many people who suffered under her still feel afraid.

Soldiers took them and kept them in secret places. They tied them up, beat them, and left them in very small rooms for a long time. One man said it felt worse than death. These places were hidden, but now people are starting to see them and hear stories from victims.

Many people say that the same soldiers are still working now. They are afraid the same thing could happen again. One man said he is always scared when he walks outside. Some people say the army acted alone. Others think the prime minister told them what to do. Victims want the new leaders to help them and stop this from happening again.

Difficult words: suffer (to go through something bad or unpleasant), hidden (not easy to find), victim (a person who is harmed, injured, or killed).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What actions are victims hoping new leaders will take to prevent the soldiers’ abuses from happening again?
