Bhutan is building a new city – level 2

11-03-2025 07:00

Bhutan is building a new city on its border with India to help its economy and stop skilled people from leaving. The Prime Minister says this could increase Bhutan’s population to three million.

The city called Galu Mindfulness City (GMC) will be eco-friendly, safe, and modern. The government will allow only some companies to take part in the project.

The government is improving roads and border crossings, and India is helping by building a railway to Bhutan. The city will use hydroelectric power and follow Bhutanese traditions of happiness and mindfulness. It will take 21 years to finish. Many people believe GMC will make Bhutan richer, bring better roads, and create jobs. The government wants to grow the economy but keep its culture strong.

Difficult words: skilled (able to do some things), eco-friendly (not harmful to the natural world), hydroelectric power (using water to make electricity).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What features of Galu Mindfulness City reflect its focus on sustainability, cultural traditions, and modern infrastructure, and what benefits are anticipated from these initiatives?
