Black Friday – level 2

02-12-2025 07:00

This Black Friday, Americans spent 8.6 billion dollars online, choosing laptops and phones over visiting physical stores. This continued shift to online shopping weakened the role of the traditional Black Friday, as discounts are now spread over

many weeks. Adobe Analytics expects total online spending for the day to reach almost 11.9 billion dollars. Many shoppers were careful with their money and shopped on a budget because they worried about high prices and a weak job market. This means people are more careful about what they buy. Store traffic was quiet, with few of the usual early-morning lines.

The biggest online shopping day may be Cyber Monday, with sales forecast to hit 14.2 billion dollars.

Difficult words: shift (a change in direction, position, or trend), weaken (to make something less strong), shop on a budget (to buy things while trying to stay within a specific, limited amount of money).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What reasons are given for many shoppers being careful with their money and shopping on a budget?
