Britain will ban social media for children under 16 – level 1
19-06-2026 07:00
Keir Starmer is the leader of Britain. He has a new plan. He wants to ban social media for children under 16. This means that young people cannot use apps like TikTok and Instagram.
He also wants to change rules for online games and video websites. Right now, strangers can talk to children on these apps, and that is bad. The leader says that children need to play outside and have a real childhood.
Many people worry because children spend too much time on phones. They feel sad. The government talks to many families. Most parents say that social media is not safe. Many parents are happy, but some doctors think that the ban may not work.
Difficult words: ban (an official rule which stops something), stranger (a person who you do not know), childhood (the time when you are a young child).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What does the new plan propose for children under 16 regarding apps like TikTok and Instagram?
