British couple arrested in Iran – level 2

24-02-2025 07:00

Iran charged a British couple, Craig and Lindsay Foreman, with spying. The police arrested them in January, but this became public only last week.

Iranian officials say they were not real tourists but were getting information. The couple was traveling by motorbike and planned to stay in Iran for five days. Lindsay shared posts about their journey, saying they were studying what makes a good life.

The UK warns British people not to visit Iran because they may be arrested. The Foremans knew the risks, but they decided to go anyway. Their family is worried and is trying to bring them home. Some foreigners in Iran get home quickly, but others stay in prison for years.

Difficult words: spying (secretly watching or getting information), public (when people know about something), arrested (taken by police).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What mode of transportation did the couple choose for their trip, and what did Lindsay mention they were studying during their stay?
