Canada puts tariffs on US products – level 2
05-02-2025 07:00
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada will add 25% tariffs on US products. He made this decision because US President Donald Trump put tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods.
Trump also added 10% tariffs on Chinese imports. He said that Canada and Mexico didn’t stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
Mexico also plans to put tariffs on US products. President Claudia Sheinbaum said that US accusations against Mexico were unfair. She said the US didn’t do enough to control fentanyl use. Canada’s tariffs focus on US states which support Trump, like Kentucky and Florida. Some provinces will increase tariffs on US trucks and take away American products from shops.
Experts say these tariffs could harm both countries.
Difficult words: imports (things which come from another country for sale), trafficking (buying and selling things illegally), accusation (saying that someone did something bad).
