Chile’s New Constitution – level 2

18-11-2019 15:00

In Chile, there are strong protests against the government. There is a lot of crime and violence in the streets, and 20 people died.

The protests started one month ago because of high prices of public transit. Protesters also want better human and social rights.

The Chilean government announced that it is preparing a new constitution, however, this is a long process that can take some time.

When the government prepares the constitution, people can go and vote in a referendum if they agree with it or not. It can take about two years to adopt the constitution.

Difficult words: constitution (the system of laws of a country), referendum (a public vote in which all people of a country give their opinion on an important question), adopt (to start, to follow something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
