Couples are getting married in Denmark – level 3
13-05-2025 15:00
Denmark has become a popular destination for international couples to get married, with thousands coming each year.
Judith and Ivan, a couple from Germany and Uganda, wanted to get married but faced difficulties in Germany due to visa rules and high costs. Instead, they travelled to Denmark, where the process is easier and faster. The town of Ribe, where they married, is known for welcoming foreign couples and hosting weddings in its historic town hall.
Judith and Ivan planned their wedding quickly. They applied online, received approval within five days, and got a wedding appointment just three weeks later. They only needed a passport and proof of their relationship. The wedding ceremony was short but meaningful. After making their vows, they became husband and wife in just fifteen minutes. Germany recognizes marriages made in Denmark, so Judith and Ivan are now legally married in both countries. They are happy and feel that nothing can stop them from being together. They will always remember Denmark fondly.
Difficult words: proof (something that shows or makes clear that something is true or real), vow (a serious promise or statement), fondly (in a way that shows love and care).
