Cows on the road – level 2

20-05-2025 07:00

There was a big traffic problem on Highway 400 in Ontario, Canada. A group of cows walked onto the highway, where many people drove to their cottages for the long weekend.

Police and farmers worked hard to get the cows off the road and into trailers. Some cows were already safe, but a few were still running. Sergeant Schmidt said the cows got scared during a storm with thunder and lightning. They escaped from their field and went onto the road. Some cows ran in different directions and even ran toward cars and people. This made it dangerous for everyone.

Animal workers and farmers are helping now. One farmer got hurt, but the police are trying to keep the cows and drivers safe. They hope to stop the cows from going back on the road.

Difficult words: highway (a big road with fast cars), trailer (a big box pulled by a car or truck), direction (the way someone or something goes or faces).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What scared the cows and caused them to escape their field and run onto the highway?
