Five teenage boys died in County Kildare, Ireland, after driving a stolen BMW the wrong way down a highway and colliding head-on with another car.

The victims in the second vehicle, a family traveling to the airport, suffered severe injuries, and two adults remain in critical condition. Accounts belonging to some of the deceased boys contained videos showing stolen cars, reckless driving, and escaping police pursuits. Following the horrific incident, Ireland’s media regulator contacted TikTok to investigate its efforts in removing dangerous joyriding content.

Irish Prime Minister condemned the behavior and stated that reckless driving is increasingly staged to gain popularity and likes on social media platforms. Police representatives warned that rival youth gangs actively try to outdo each other online through dangerous driving stunts. In response, TikTok stated that it is closely monitoring related content and continuously removing accounts that violate safety rules regarding criminal behavior.
