Driving in the EU at 17 – level 1

23-04-2025 07:00

The EU wants roads to be safe. It says 17-year-olds can drive. But they need an adult with them. These young drivers will have special rules for two years. They must not drink and drive. That is very bad.

Driving tests will ask new things. People must be more careful with walkers and bikes. The EU also talks about health. Some people go to the doctor. Some people fill out a paper to say they feel okay.

There will also be a new digital license. This means people can have it on their phone. But they can still use a card. Some people are scared of computer problems. The EU says it will be safe.

Difficult words: adult (a grown-up person, not a child), license (a document or card which says that you can do something), scared (afraid, worried).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What must 17-year-olds not do during their first two years of driving under the new EU rules?
