El Salvador will take criminals – level 2
10-02-2025 15:00
El Salvador offered to take in dangerous criminals deported from the US, including gang members.
This news came after a meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele. Rubio is working to get support for Trump’s deportation plans.
El Salvador is already accepting its own deported citizens but now wants to take criminals from other countries, such as Venezuela and Cuba, which don’t want them. Bukele also said his country could take dangerous US citizens, but it is unclear if the US will agree.
Some people worry about El Salvador’s prisons. More details of the plan will come soon.
Difficult words: deported (sent back to another country), deportation (sending someone back to another country), citizen (a person who lives in a particular place or country).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
