Europe’s hottest winter – level 1

12-01-2023 07:00

Our world is getting warmer. 2022 is the second-warmest year in Europe. The other warmest year is 1950. This year’s winter is the warmest ever.

A warm winter stops snow in the mountains. Countries like Switzerland, Austria, Macedonia, or Italy need tourists. They don’t come.

Macedonia is full of skiers in winter. The mountains are without skiers. Spain is unusually warm, too. Bilbao is 25 degrees Celsius last week. The heat is 10 degrees more than usual.

The weather is becoming more extreme. More fires, floods, and droughts happen. Experts say that such unusual weather will be usual in the future.

Difficult words: extreme (very great or unusual), flood (a time when water gets into buildings and homes), drought (a long time without rain).
