Fighting in Gaza stops – level 2

21-01-2025 15:00

Three hostages are back in Israel after Hamas freed them. Hamas handed them to the Red Cross and they are now reunited with their mothers. This happened because of a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

The deal includes Hamas freeing 33 hostages in exchange for many Palestinian prisoners. On Sunday, Israel released 90 prisoners, mostly women and boys.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said it was a happy and important moment. Other world leaders also reacted and asked both sides to free more hostages. Aid is now reaching Gaza, but the situation is still difficult.

Difficult words: hostage (a person taken by force to get something), ceasefire (when the fighting stops for some time), aid (help).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What was the deal between Israel and Hamas that led to the release of three hostages?
