Flying private – level 2

22-05-2025 07:00

Private jets are expensive and harmful to the planet. One famous musician used a private jet 396 times in one year.

Even a short flight can cost a lot of money. Renting a jet costs between 7,500 and 17,000 dollars an hour. Buying one costs millions of dollars, and owners must also pay for fuel and other things. Private jets also make much more pollution than regular planes. Normal planes carry many people, so the pollution is shared. A private jet carries only a few people, so each person causes more damage. Some rich people fly a lot, and cause more pollution than thousands of people who fly in one jet. One way to help is to use better fuel. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) comes from old food oil and plants. It still makes pollution, but much less. Rich people could use SAF and help pay to make it cheaper for all.

Difficult words: rent (to pay money to use something for a short time), owner (a person who has something and it belongs to them), share (to use something together with other people).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why does a private jet cause more pollution per person than a regular plane?
