Forever chemicals – level 1

13-03-2026 07:00

Forever chemicals, called PFAS, are in many things that we use every day. They are in non-stick pans, raincoats, food wrappers, makeup, and water. They stay in water and soil for a very long time.

Some research says that PFAS can make people sick, for example, make it harder to have babies or cause some types of cancer. Rules say that small amounts are safe. But we do not know all the dangers. You can stay away from PFAS. Read labels and do not use some products like long-lasting makeup, stain-proof chairs, or waterproof straws. If people know about PFAS, they can stay safe and healthy.

Difficult words: non-stick (a thing or material that does not let food stick to it), cancer (a serious illness where cells grow out of control), amount (how much of something there is), stain-proof (when something does not get dirty or show marks easily).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What health problems have studies linked to PFAS exposure?
