France and Spain on fire – level 1

Big fires are burning forests and homes in France and Spain. Thousands of firefighters are working day and night to stop the flames. Many planes drop water from the sky.
Almost 370,000 people must leave their homes to stay safe. They are staying with friends or in special safe places. The air is full of smoke, and many houses are broken. Firefighters want to stop the fires fast because very hot weather is coming this week.
Hot weather makes fires grow big quickly. Nobody died in the fires, but people are worried and cannot go home now. Spanish officials say that climate change is the problem. They are arguing about what to do.
Difficult words: flame (a hot, bright gas which comes from a fire), air (the gas around us which we need to live), argue (to speak angrily to someone because you have another idea).
