France has new rules on assisted dying – level 1

France has a new rule for very sick people. They can ask for special medicine. This medicine can help them die.
People must be 18 or older. They must live in France. They must feel pain. The pain does not go away with other help. They ask for the medicine. Then they wait for some time. They must say yes again later. Then a doctor gives the medicine. They can take it at home or in a hospital. If they cannot take it, a doctor or nurse can help.
Another rule helps people with pain. It helps people feel good and safe. Many people in France want these new rules, but the process is slow.
Difficult words: medicine (something you take to help your body feel better), pain (a bad feeling in your body when something is wrong or hurts), process (steps you follow to do or finish something).
