Friday the 13th – level 2

13-06-2025 07:00

Many people think Friday the 13th is an unlucky day. This idea comes from a superstition, which is when people believe that something brings bad luck without proof.

The number 12 feels complete, like 12 months in a year. The number 13 comes after 12, and people see it as strange or unlucky. Some people also see Friday as unlucky. Some stories say important and sad things happened on Fridays. One big event was on Friday, October 13, 1307, when many Knights Templar were arrested. That made people think more about the bad luck of the date.

Now, Friday the 13th is in books, movies, and spooky stories. Some people are scared of it, and that fear has a long name: paraskevidekatriaphobia. But most people know it is just another normal day.

Difficult words: superstition (a belief without any good reason), proof (facts or information which show us that something is true), spooky (strange or frightening).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Which major historical event that took place on Friday, October 13, 1307, strengthened the superstition surrounding that date?
