Geneva International Film Festival – level 2

17-03-2025 07:00

The Impact Days program at the Geneva International Film Festival received 100 film projects and chose 12.

One of them is Children of Honey, a documentary about Tanzania’s Hadzabe people, who are trying to save their language. The Hadzabe are one of the oldest hunter-gatherer tribes. They want to keep their old way of life, but modern changes make this difficult. The film’s co-director, Jigar Ganatra, said the Hadza want people to hear their true story. At the festival, filmmakers meet with groups that can help them. Impact producer Simona Nickmanova said they are working with the Hadza to protect their language and land.

All the filmmakers in the program want to make a change with their films.

Difficult words: documentary (a movie based on a real event, life story, and so on), hunter-gatherer tribe (a group of people who live by hunting and picking food), impact producer (a person who works to help a movie make a change or impact on people).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How are modern influences challenging the Hadzabe people's efforts to preserve both their language and their traditional way of life?
