Ghana gets back old things from the UK and South Africa – level 1
14-11-2025 07:00
Ghana gets back its old gold and bronze things from Britain and South Africa. People take these things from the Asante Kingdom many years ago. British soldiers steal some of them. Other things get to museums and collectors.
The things are very old. They show the life and culture of the Asante people. There are gold weights, drums, and royal things. The king of the Asante people, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is very happy. He thanks a South African company and a British art expert. They help to give the things back.
Now people in Ghana can see the things again in a museum. It is an important day for the country.
Difficult words: collector (a person who gathers and keeps special objects), weight (a small object which people use to find out how heavy something is), royal (connected to a king, queen, or their family).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Why did Otumfuo Osei Tutu II express his gratitude to a South African company and a British art expert?
