Houses are expensive in Australia – level 1

04-09-2026 07:00

Houses in Australia are very expensive today. Young people cannot buy their own homes. Because of this, many families live together in one big house.

Grandparents, parents, and adult children share space to save money. Some older people build small homes in their children’s gardens. Living together helps everyone. Grandparents help with children, and young people get a cheap place to live.

The number of families living together is growing fast every year. Between 2016 and 2021, it goes up by 22%.

Difficult words: expensive (when something costs a lot of money), adult (a person who is not a child anymore), cheap (when something costs little money).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

By what percentage did the number of families living together increase between 2016 and 2021?
