How China deals with trash – level 2
20-05-2025 15:00
Zhangjiagang is a city in China that has a new and smart way of treating household waste. It doesn’t use landfills anymore.
Now, a computer system controls burning the waste in a special, closed building. This makes electricity and heat for homes and factories. The place is very clean, and there is no smell or trash on the ground. Kitchen waste and household waste are burned together, which gives more power. The city makes enough electricity for 60,000 homes every year. After burning, the rest of the waste goes to companies that make building materials. The heat from burning helps small businesses nearby. Workers handle dangerous waste safely. The system uses waste to help people and protect the environment.
Difficult words: smart (clever), waste (things and materials which people throw away), landfill (a place where people put waste in the ground).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Why are kitchen waste and household waste burned together in Zhangjiagang’s new waste treatment system?
