Internet archive – level 2

07-05-2025 07:00

The Internet Archive is a group in San Francisco that saves websites and other digital things.

It keeps old versions of web pages so people can see what they looked like before. This helps save internet history. The Archive also keeps books, music, and videos. Later, they become digital files.

A woman named Jessica Peterson lost her online videos when a US government website stopped. She was very sad but found her videos again on the Internet Archive.

Some people are worried because many government websites change or don’t exist anymore. The Archive is helping to save these pages. Even if the live websites are gone, people can still see them using the Wayback Machine. The Archive wants to keep history safe for everyone.

Difficult words: archive (a place where old things are kept), version (a particular form of something), gone (away, lost).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How did Jessica Peterson recover her lost online videos after the government website shut down?
