Kilmar García back in the US – level 2
10-06-2025 15:00
A man named Kilmar García was deported to El Salvador in March, but it was a mistake. Now, he is back in the US and faces two criminal charges.
The government says García made about 100 trips to smuggle people from Central America to the US for many years. Although a court said he could be in danger in El Salvador, he was deported. His story became very important, and the US top court said he must return to have a fair trial. He also had a speeding stop where police thought he was helping with human trafficking, but they didn’t arrest him. His family says he only worked in construction.
Difficult words: deported (sent back to another country), smuggle (to move things or people illegally into or out of a country), trial (a formal meeting in a court).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How many trips did the government say García made to smuggle people from Central America to the US?
