Louvre robbery – level 2

23-10-2025 07:00

The Louvre Museum in Paris closed after a robbery on Sunday morning.

Three masked men entered the museum using a lift that workers were fixing. They broke windows to get inside the Apollo Gallery, where there are France’s crown jewels. They used chainsaws and then escaped on scooters.

The police are looking for the thieves, but no one knows yet how much the stolen jewelry is worth. The museum is closed now. Some of the stolen items belonged to Empress Eugénie, who lived in the 1800s. This was a very bold crime, and experts say the thieves used the building work as a way to get in.

Difficult words: robbery (stealing from a place or a person), crown jewels (jewels and crowns which belong to a country’s royal family), bold (brave).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Which repair work did the thieves exploit to enter the Apollo Gallery?
