Man fights to meet his true parents – level 3

29-04-2025 15:00

Egura Satoshi was born in a public hospital in Tokyo in 1958 and grew up in the wrong family.

Staff at the hospital accidentally switched him with another baby after birth. He found out as an adult and decided to fight for the right to know his birth family.

Four years ago, Satoshi filed a lawsuit against the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. This week, the court ruled in his favor and told the government to launch an investigation to find his biological parents. Satoshi was born at Sumida Maternity Hospital, and the family who raised him never knew he was not their real son. However, he suspected the truth in his 30s and confirmed it with a DNA test in his 40s. He has been trying to find his real parents for almost 20 years.

The court said the government must do everything possible to correct the mistake. The man hopes to finally meet his biological family, but says he is still grateful to the parents who raised him.

Difficult words: lawsuit (a legal court case), biological (related by blood).

What did the DNA test in his 40s confirm for Satoshi?
