Marine Le Pen guilty – level 1

04-04-2025 15:00

Marine Le Pen is a French politician. She is in trouble.

She takes money from the EU and uses it in the wrong way. The money is for workers in the European Parliament. Le Pen uses it for her party’s workers in France. Now, she cannot be in elections for five years. She also has a prison sentence, but she will stay at home with a special bracelet for two years. This is a big problem for Le Pen and her party. She wants to be the next president. But now she cannot try. Her party needs to find a new leader. Maybe Jordan Bardella will be the new leader, but some people think that he is too young and does not know enough.

This problem is not new in the EU. Some other politicians also use EU money in the wrong way. Many people must give the money back. These things change how people feel about the EU.

Difficult words: elections (a formal vote of a person for a job in politics), prison sentence (when a court says that someone must go to prison), bracelet (a thing you wear on the wrist, arm, or ankle).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How does redirecting funds intended for European Parliament workers affect her political career and her party’s prospects?
