Mass shooting in Florida – level 2

20-06-2016 07:00

A gunman fired shots in a gay night club in Orlando, Florida. He killed 49 people and left a further 53 injured. This was the deadliest mass shooting in recent US history. People captured the incident on video from across the street.

While carrying out the attack, the gunman pledged allegiance to Islamic State. Reporters interviewed his father and he said that his son was not radicalised but had strong anti-gay feelings. His ex-wife also described him as mentally unstable.

Police shot and killed the gunman after they stormed the club.

Difficult words: pledge allegiance (say that you are loyal to somebody or something), mentally (relating to the mind), storm (attack quickly).

You can read the original story and watch the video in the Level 3 section.
