Meta must pay – level 1

13-08-2026 07:00

A court in the US tells Meta to pay a very big fine. Meta owns Facebook and Instagram.

The judge says Meta does not protect children on the internet. The company knows about online dangers, but it does not help young people. Now Meta must pay lots of money to help children who are hurt. Meta must also make new rules for its apps. Meta says it tries to keep young people safe. The company wants to fight the court decision.

Some people want more rules to stop bad things online. Other people think that children need better help from their parents to stay safe online.

Difficult words: fine (money a person or company must pay for breaking a rule), protect (to keep someone safe), decision (what you want to do after thinking).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What actions does the judge require Meta to take after saying the company does not protect children on the internet?
