Music artists protest against AI – level 1
05-03-2025 07:00
Many musicians, like Annie Lennox and Kate Bush, do not like the UK’s new copyright rules.
They make an album with 12 tracks. But there is no sound on the album. The album only has noise from the studio. The artists want to show that AI can take music from real musicians.
The new rules will let AI companies use songs from the internet. Musicians think this is bad. AI music may take their jobs. Ed Newton-Rex makes the album. He says the government is giving artists’ work to AI for free. He thinks the rules should stay the same.
In the US, musicians also have problems with AI. Many people want to keep music safe for real artists.
Difficult words: copyright (a law which keeps music, books, and art safe), rule (an official instruction about what people can do), for free (without having to pay any money).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What purpose does the album with 12 silent tracks serve, and what concerns are raised about the way AI is allowed to use music from the internet?
