Music festivals are becoming less popular – level 3
26-06-2025 07:00
Music festivals like Coachella, Burning Man, and Lollapalooza used to be exciting events for fans.
People would travel far to see many bands, often discovering new ones. But now, rising ticket and travel costs are making many people choose not to go. Festivals can cost several hundred dollars or even up to 1000 dollars for a full experience, including transportation and lodging.
Some fans now prefer to spend that money on other things, like travel abroad or online experiences. Last year, Burning Man didn’t sell out for the first time, and even Coachella had slower ticket sales. In 2024, over 1,100 festivals took place in the US, but around 40 were canceled.
Experts say the way young people enjoy music is changing. Many prefer to stream concerts or join virtual festivals on gaming platforms like Fortnite and Roblox. Until prices fall or festivals offer something new, fewer people may attend live events.
Difficult words: lodging (a place to sleep while traveling), stream (to watch or listen to something online).
