Musk and Germany’s election – level 2
06-01-2025 15:00
The German government says Elon Musk is trying to influence their election because he supports the far-right AfD party on X. Musk wrote that only the AfD could save Germany, which worried officials.
Authorities watch the AfD because of possible links to extremism.
Germany will vote on February 23 after Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government collapsed. In his New Year’s speech, Scholz asked people to stay united and not let social media platforms or their owners control the elections. He didn’t speak about Musk directly but about the importance of fair elections.
The government is worried about false information on X, but they still use it to share news because it helps them speak to the public.
Difficult words: extremism (very strong ideas and opinions about politics or religion), importance (how important something is), public (all people in general).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What concerns do German authorities have about the AfD party and how does this relate to Elon Musk's support for the party?
