North Korea opens a beach resort – level 2
28-08-2025 07:00
North Korea has opened a new holiday area called the Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Zone. It has hotels, shops, restaurants, and even a water park.
The resort was planned for international tourists, but right now, only Russians can visit it. They come in groups organised by official travel companies. Russian visitors said the beach was beautiful and the resort was good, but there were still many rules.
North Korea hopes the project will bring in money. The country needs foreign money like euros, dollars, or rubles. In the past, many Chinese people visited, but since COVID-19, only a few hundred Russians arrive each month.
Experts believe North Korea also wants to show its friendship with Russia and prove it can welcome tourists.
Difficult words: resort (a place for holidays), foreign (from another country), prove (to show that something is true or possible).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Which nationality is currently the only one permitted to visit the Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Zone?
